They have long been a symbol of <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="EVFES0000053" title="Good Friday" href="/topic/religion-belief/religious-festivals/good-friday-EVFES0000053.topic">Good Friday</a>. Each bun has an icing cross on top to signify the crucifixion.
