1991 - Los Angeles Lakers great Earvin Magic Johnson announced that he has tested positive for the AIDS virus and will retire from the National Basketball Association. Johnson helped lead the Lakers to five NBA titles during the 1980s.

2001 - Antoine Walker scored 31 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Boston Celtics to a 104-95 National Basketball Association victory over the Washington Wizards. Michael Jordan topped the Wizards with 32 points.
2006 - Aberdeen Central earned a spot in the State AA high school volleyball tournament with a 3-0 win over Pierre in the District 3AA tournament. Aberdeen, which concluded a perfect 9-0 record at Golden Eagles Arena, takes an 18-2 record into the state tournament.
2010 - Brett Favre tossed a 25-yard TD pass to Visanthe Shiancoe with 27 seconds remaining to force overtime and Ryan Longwell booted a 35-yard field goal with 9:35 left in the extra session to lift the Minnesota Vikings to a 27-24 National Football League victory over the Arizona Cardinals.
