1986 - Aberdeen Central's girls won the Region 3AA track and field championship. The Central girls have won every meet in which they have competed this season.

1991 - The Pittsburgh Penguins took a 3-2 lead in the Stanley Cup playoffs, dumping the Minnesota North Stars 4-0.

1996 - Pinch-hitter Charlie O'Brien singled home the winning run in the 10th inning as the Toronto Blue Jays edged the Minnesota Twins 5-4. The Twins stand at 19-26 on the season and are in last place in the American League Central division, 11 games behind division leader Cleveland.

2001 - Matt Freudenthal's single scored Jesse Kervin with the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning to lift the Aberdeen Smittys to a 12-11 victory over Groton in the first game of an American Legion baseball doubleheader. Curtis Metz drove in four runs with two hits as Aberdeen won the second game 8-2.

2006 - The Toronto Raptors, who had the worst record in the National Basketball Association at 27-55, won the first overall pick in the NBA's draft lottery.

2010 - Jason Bay homered twice and drove in three runs and Johan Santana scattered six hits and allowed one run over 7 innings to lead the New York Mets to a 6-4 interleague victory over the New York Yankees.
