1986 - Martina Navratilova defeated Hana Mandikova 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 for her fifth straight Wimbledon singles tennis tournament championship.
1991 - Pitcher Fernando Valenzuela, hit hard in two starts with California and sidelined by a heart problem, was placed on unconditional release waivers by the Angels.
1996 - Steffi Graf advanced to the women's singles championship at the Wimbledon tennis tournament wth a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 victory over Japan's Kimiko Date. Graf will face Arantxa Sanchez Vicario in the title match.
2001 - Dustin Hardy had four hits and Doug Metz added three hits to a 13-hit attack as the Aberdeen 15-16 Teeners rolled to a 15-8 victory over Brookings in the first game of a doubleheader. Greg Zirbel had three hits and four RBIs as Aberdeen won the nightcap 9-1. Aberdeen improved to 24-3 on the season with the sweep.
2006 - Brian Doerr pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts as the Aberdeen 15-16 Teeners defeated Pierre 5-0 in the second game of a doubleheader. Pierre won the opening game 14-2.
2010 - Greg Dobbs homered and drove in two runs and Roy Halladay pitched a complete game, allowing five hits and striking out seven, to lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a 3-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves.
