1987 -- The Los Angeles Lakers made quick work of Seattle, defeating the SuperSonics in four straight games in the NBA Western Conference finals. James Worthy led Los Angeles with 26 points as the Lakers whipped the Sonics 133-102 in the final game of the series.

1992 -- Michael Jordan scored 35 points, but needed 33 shots to do so and the Chicago Bulls dropped a 99-85 NBA playoff decision to the Cleveland Cavaliers, knotting the series at 2-2.

1997 -- Eddie Johnson barely beat the final buzzer with a high-arcing three-point shot from 25 feet, giving the Houston Rockets a 95-92 NBA victory over the Utah Jazz and tying the Western Conference finals at two games apiece.

2002 -- Tony Schwan won the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.83 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 22.17 seconds plus ran on two winning relay teams to help Aberdeen Central's boys capture the team title at the State AA track and field meet.

2007 -- Lemmon's Dusty Peters celebrated his birthday in style, clearing 13 feet to win the Class B pole vault competition at the high school state track and field meet in Sioux Falls. Gettysburg's Calley Worth defended her title in the Class B girls, with a winning height of nine feet, six inches.

2011 -- The Aberdeen Smittys improved to 5-1 on the American Legion baseball season, defeating Huron in both games of a doubleheader. Christian Cox struck out eight batters in six innings as Aberdeen won the opener 8-1, and Brendon Hoellein had two hits and four RBIs as Aberdeen won the nightcap 16-1 in four innings.
