Kyle Scholten was one of three O’Gorman players in double figures with 15 points in a 54-40 winning effort over Aberdeen Central on Saturday in the Knights’ gym.
Scholten scored 11 points in the second half as O’Gorman overcame a 32-30 deficit after three quarters.
Aberdeen coach Brent Norberg said poor shooting plagued the Golden Eagles during the fourth quarter.
“They were able to make some shots and we were not able to,” Norberg said. “We had some turnovers at the end of the third and into the fourth that hurt us.”
Tyler Pals added 13 points and 10 rebounds, Braxton Elliott 10 points and Ben Johnson nine rebounds as the Knights moved to 2-2 on the season. O’Gorman was 16 of 22 from the free throw line while Aberdeen Central was 6 of 10.
Josh Hilgemann led the Golden Eagles with 14 points.
“He was real aggressive, I thought it was his best game of the year,” Norberg said.
While shooting may have been a problem, Norberg said the Golden Eagles played well defensively.
“We defended very well all game,” he said. “We just have to take care of the ball and rebound.”
O’Gorman hosts Watertown on Friday while Aberdeen Central (0-3) hosts Huron on Tuesday at Golden Eagles Arena at 7:30 p.m. Norberg said the Tigers have some size that Central will have to deal with.
“They are very big and have good front-line players,” Norberg said. “It will be a challenge for us.”
