The Alaska Aces defeated the Las Vegas Wranglers 3-1 Saturday night, to take a 2-0 series lead in round one of the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
Former Ace Shawn Skelly was the first to strike on the 5-hole goal in the first period, to give Vegas a 1-0 lead. Just under four minutes later, Drew MacKenzie burried the equalizer on the power play, the assist coming from Nick Mazzolini. With less than 30 seconds left in the frame, John Ramage also tallied a power play goal to give Alaska a 2-1 advantage at first intermission.
The game was scoreless for the next 39 minutes, until Ramage scored the empty netter to round out the 3-1 final.
Game 3 of the series is Wednesday in Las Vegas at 6:15pm Alaska time.
