Nick Mazzolini scored twice in the opening period to spark the Aces four-goal first in a 4-2 win over the Idaho Steelheads in Wednesday's game four of the ECHL Western Conference Semifials. Alaska takes a commanding three games to one lead and moves one victory away from the next round. Game five is Thursday in Boise.
Zach Davies and Evan Trupp also scored in Alaska's four-goal explosion. For the night, the Aces outshot the Steelheads 45-20, including a 21-6 edge in the decisive opening frame.
The Aces played without forward Tommy Mele, who was issued a one-game suspension for a hit to the head in Monday's game three. Ross Ring-Jarvi took Mele's spot in the lineup and managed two shots on goal.
Alaska took only two penalties all game, and the penalty killing unit proved up to the task during a five minute major penalty whistled on Turner Elson at 10:48 of the third period. The Steelheads finished 0 for 2 on the power play.
