Twelve different Aces players registered at least one point as Alaska never trailed in a 5-2 game three victory in Idaho on Monday night. The win gives the Aces a two games to one lead in the best of seven Western Conference Semifinals. Game four is set for Wednesday.
Tommy Mele opened the scoring at 1:57 of the first, snapping the scoreless streak of Idaho goaltender Josh Robinson at 171 minutes, 39 seconds. It would not take long for Alaska to batter the Steelheads goalie.
Sean Curry and Brendan Connolly each buried goals in the second period for the Aces, and Brett Findlay and Evan Trupp tallied in the third. The Aces outshot the Steelheads, 34-22, and Gerald Coleman kept Idaho in check most of the night, making 20 saves.
The Aces depth was particularly evident with regular season leading scorer Peter Sivak out with an injury. Defenseman Kane Lafranchise also adds to Alaska's depth on the blue line. Lafranchise appeared in an Alaska uniform for the first time since late November after being re-assigned by Abbotsford of the AHL. He furnished one assist.
