Defenseman Brad Richard scored his first goal of the playoffs at 14:05 of the third period to break a 2-2 tie, lifting the Aces to a 4-2 victory in game five of the Kelly Cup Finals Saturday night over the Cincinnati Cyclones. Alaska leads the best of seven series, three games to two.
Alaska never led until Ricahrd's strike and fought uphil all game, despite a 41-30 edge in shots on goal. Cincinnati enjoyed a hot start, taking a 1-0 lead on Josh Birkholtz's goal 13 seconds into regulation. The Aces answered quickly, getting the equalizer from Jordan Morrison at 3:09 of the first.
The Cyclones again took the lead in the second period on a marker by Trevor Lewis. Alaska again responded, getting the tying goal from Sean Curry just 29 seconds later.
The Aces can clinch the franchise's third ECHL title on Monday in game six.
