KBCA releases fourth basketball rankings

It was the 4A boys that showed it was the most consistent class in the state last week and now it’s the class with the most changes. Four teams dropped out of the top 10, as Independence and Concordia are now ranked Nos. 3 and 4, respectively, after not being ranked last week.

The McPherson boys jumped three spots to No. 7 and Abilene fell from No. 3 to No. 8. The McPherson girls and Holton switched places as the Lady Bullpups are now No. 3 in 4A.

It was not a good week for Northern Heights as the boys’ team dropped out of the top 10 from No. 6 and the girls team did the same after a No. 4 ranking in 2A.

The 6A boys remained fairly stable as the top seven teams stayed in the top spots as last week. On the girls’ side, though, every team ranked last week remained ranked, but all moved to a different slot. Wichita Heights, Maize and Olathe South stay as the top three.

The Kapaun Mt. Carmel girls’ team continues its tear through the Wichita City League and remains at the top of 5A. The Kapaun boys fell to No. 4 in the state. Shawnee Mission South takes its place at the top.

The 1A Div. I boys’ rankings remained the same from top to bottom, as St. John-Hudson, South Haven and Waverly round out the top three.
