ABILENE, Kan.—
The North Central Kansas League got off to a successful start to the beginning of the 2012-2013 KSHSAA Winter season with a combined 9-3 record in basketball and 3-3 mark in wrestling duals and at least one wrestling team championship.Results from the Wamego wrestling tournament were not available and complete results from the Riley County wrestling duals tournament were not immediately available.
The Panther basketball teams split with Beloit on Friday night with the Panther boys picking up a 54-41 win while the Lady Panthers fell 57-48. The Panther wrestling team began its season on Saturday at the Wamego tournament, but results from that action are not available.
Abilene
The Abilene basketball teams swept Smoky Valley High School on Friday night with the Cowboys winning 66-35 and the Cowgirls winning 39-31. The Cowboy wrestling team also got its season started in high fashion at Smoky Valley on Thursday as the Cowboys won two duals against state-ranked opponents in knocking off Buhler 39-35 and Smoky Valley 44-33. The Cowboy wrestlers were also in action on Saturday at Wamego.
Clay Center
The Clay Center basketball teams opened their season against Rock Creek High School on Friday night, splitting with the Mustangs as the Lady Tigers opened with a 49-39 win but the Tiger boys fell in the nightcap 45-37. The Clay Center wrestling team opened up their season Thursday by splitting their two duals at Chapman. The Tigers lost to Junction City 57-15 but finished the night off with an NCKL win over Chapman 54-24.
Marysville
The Marysville basketball teams got two nights of action in this past week and went 3-1 in their four games as the Bulldog boys topped Sabetha 39-31 on Thursday and Auburn, Neb. 51-32 on Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs, on the other hand, lost 42-25 to Sabetha on Thursday and came back to defeat Auburn, Neb. on Saturday 70-41. The Bulldog wrestling team won the Mission Valley Tournament on Saturday with 155.5 points.
Wamego
The Wamego basketball teams opened their seasons on Thursday when they swept Rossville with the boys winning 66-40 and the Lady Raiders won 63-17. The Red Raider wrestlrs opened their season on Saturday by hosting a tournament but the results from that tournament were not available.
Chapman
The Chapman basketball teams have not started their seasons yet as they will open this week when they host to the Fighting Irish Classic. The Champan wrestling teams got their season started on Thursday when they hosted a double dual with Junction City and Clay Center but lost both matches as they lost to the Blue Jays 57-15 and also lost to NCKL rival Clay Center 54-24. The Irish wrestlers also played sixth at the Mission Valley Tournament on Saturday with 119 points.
