The 2012-2013 Wheat State basketball season portion of the 2012-2013 schedule is now complete and the White City boys and Little River girls have won their respective Wheat State championships.

There is still one week of regular season action remaining for all nine Wheat State schools and just one Wheat State doubleheader still remaining to be played, but other than the Peabody Burns at Hope games set for this Tuesday night the Wheat State schools are now focusing on their upcoming sub-state tournaments.

The nine Wheat State schools will be spread around six different sub-state tournaments with Solomon and Wakefield playing at Belleville, Hope and White City competing at Tescott, Centre and Goessel playing at Burrton, Elyria Christian playing in the Sylvan Grove sub-state and Little River taking its chances at the Sterling sub-state tournament.

The sub-state tournaments are scheduled to begin a week from Monday.

Solomon

The Gorillas and Lady Gorilla basketball teams went 3-1 in their two doubleheaders this past week as Tuesday night they split with Herington in a Dickinson County showdown and then Solomon swept two games from Otis-Bison on Friday night. Tuesday the Lady Gorillas fell 57-39 prior to the Gorilla boys coming back to record a 74-60 victory. Friday night the Lady Gorillas got the sweep underway with a 54-32 victory which the Solomon boys followed with a 72-37 win.

Hope

The Lion and Lady Lions basketball teams opened their week with a sweep of Junction City’s St. Xavier High School on Tuesday and then split two games with Wichita’s Northfield Academy on Friday. Tuesday the Lady Lions opened the week with a 48-35 win over the Lady Rams and the Lion boys followed that win with a 64-33 victory. Friday night the Lady Lions kept the winning going with a 42-15 victory over Northfield Academy, but the Lion boys weren’t able to continue the winning trend as they lost to Northfield Academy 57-55.

Wakefield

The Wakefield High School basketball teams achieved something Tuesday night that has been rare for the Bombers and Lady Bombers in the 2012-2013 basketball season: a doubleheader sweep. Tuesday night Wakefield swept two games from Flint Hills Christian as the Lady Bombers opened the evening with their first win of the season, knocking off Flint Hills Christian 48-9, which the Bomber boys followed with a 70-28 victory, their fifth win this season. Friday night Wakefield played a Linn High School where the Bomber boys could not keep the winning alive as they lost 56-40. The score for the girls’ game was not reported in.

Little River

Little River High School’s basketball teams went 2-2 during the week as they opened the week by sweeping Peabody Burns in a Wheat State doubleheader on Tuesday night but then got swept by Inman in non-conference action on Friday night. Tuesday the Lady Redskins opened with a 43-24 win which was followed by the Redskins boys’ 62-60 win. Friday night, the Lady Redskins lost 46-39 to Inman and the Redskin boys also fell to Inman 50-37.

White City

White City High School played Tuesday and Friday but took the week off from Wheat State action as Tuesday night the Huskies and Lady Huskies got swept by Hartford, with the girls falling 55-41 and the boys falling 49-46 then Friday night White City played host to Mission Valley where the Huskies boys team picked up a 56-33 victory but the girls score was not reported in.

Centre

The Cougars and Lady Cougars took Tuesday night off before  splitting a non-conference doubleheader with Chase County on Friday night as the Cougar boys picked up a 59-36 victory after a 56-53 defeat of the Lady Cougars.

Goessel

The Bluebirds and Lady Bluebird basketball teams split two games with Udall High School on Tuesday night and then swept two games from Canton-Galva High School on Friday night. Tuesday night the Lady Bluebirds picked up a 48-30 win over Udall before the Bluebird boys fell 53-42. Friday night the Lady Bluebirds opened action by picking up a 53-34 victory and the Bluebird boys completed the sweep with a 45-40 win.

Peabody Burns

Peabody Burns High School’s basketball teams got swept in Wheat State action on Tuesday night by Little River and then got swept by Moundridge on Friday night. Tuesday the Lady Warriors fell 43-24 to Little River and the Warrior boys fell 62-60. Friday night the Lady Warriors fell 57-22 and the Warrior boys fell 65-22.

Elyria Christian

Elyria Christian High School’s basketball teams had Tuesday night off and then Friday the Lady Eagles beat Flint Hills Christian 53-9 but the score for the boys game against Flint Hills Christian was not reported in.
