The University of Alaska Fairbanks has named Gary Gray as the institution's new athletic director. Gray comes to UAF from fellow Great Northwest Athletic Conference school Montana State University, Billings where he spent the past 18 years.
Chosen from a national pool of around 100 candidates Gray emerged as the top choice out of the three finalist who visited UAF in August. In a press release put out by the school this week Gray said "I am definitely familiar with this great university and the wonderful tradition of Nanook athletics."
UAF Chancellor Brian Rogers said of Gray "we wanted someone with experience, someone that understood the D2 experience, that it's about the student in 'student-athlete,' as well as the athlete."
Gray plans to begin his Athletic Director responsibilities in mid to late September.
