On the strength of individual victories by Micah Chelimo and Susan Tanui the UAA men's and women's cross country running teams took care of business Saturday in Kahuku Hawaii at the NCAA Div. II West Regional Championships.  Both clubs earning second place team finishes and by proxy invitations to the upcoming national meet set for later this month in Joplin Missouri.

While coach Michael Friess certainly would have liked to see a win from one or both of his teams the regional meet is not the big prize, in a press release today coach Friess said "we know that we can run better, but in all honesty our focus is to get to that national meet and do as well as we can."

The individual championship is the second straight by Micah Chelimo who finished the 10k course in 31:57.35, the senior leader of the Seawolf men's team has won eight of his past nine races stretching all the way back to last season.

For junior Susan Tanui this marks her first individual region title and just the second by a member of the Seawolf women's team.  Tanui traversed the 6k course in 21:18.50, she will head into the national meet on November 17th undefeated.
