The Detroit Red Wings signed defenseman Mike Commodore to a one-year deal on Friday.
Just hours after being bought out by the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Red Wings picked up the much-needed right-handed blueliner. Last month, Detroit lost its only right-handed shooter to the retirement of Brian Rafalski.
A second round pick in 1999 by New Jersey, Commodore had been with the Blue Jackets the last three seasons.
The 31-year-old has tallied 104 points (23 goals) over 454 NHL games and has also spent time with Calgary, Carolina and Ottawa.
The Red Wings also re-signed defenseman Jonathan Ericsson and forwards Patrick Eaves and Drew Miller on Friday.
