The Detroit Tigers beat the Toledo Mud Hens in an exhibition game Wednesday and a couple of West Michigan Whitecaps played well in a reserve role for their parent club. Aaron Westlake drove in 2 with a double in the 5th inning and Wilsen Palacios pitched 4 and 1/3 innings of 1-hit ball as the Tigers beat Toledo 8-3.
The Tigers started their opening day lineup and scored 5 runs in the 3rd inning. Miguel Cabrera, Delmon Young and Alex Avila had RBI singles and Ryan Raburn had a 2-run triple all in the 3rd inning. Rick Porcello got the start and allowed 3 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings.
Several Whitecaps saw action in the game. West Michigan opens their season in Dayton Thurdsay night at 7PM. The Tigers open at home on Thursday against the Boston Red Sox at 1:05PM.
