The Green Bay Phoenix showed why they are the preseason favorites to win the Horizon League, downing Pepperdine 97-89 in the quarterfinals of the Great Alaska Shootout on Thanksgiving night.

Keifer Sykes led the Phoniex with 23 points, while Alec Brown pumped in 21 and Greg Mays added 18.  Mays, Brown, and Jordan Fouse also blocked three shots each.

The critical part of the game occurred early in the second half when the Phoenix went on a 21-6 run to turn a 41-39 deficit to a 60-47 lead.

UCLA transfer Brendan Lane led the Waves with a game high 26 points on 12 for 14 shooting, but Pepperdine committed 20 turnovers compared to Green Bay's four.

Green Bay moves on to the Shootout semifinals at 8:00 Friday night versus the Harvard-Denver winner.  Pepperdine plays the loser of that game in the consolation round at 2:00 Friday.
