Shipley, who pitched for the Anchorage Bucs in 2011 and 2012, got selected 15th overall by the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday night. Shipley was ranked as high as 6th on the draft board of some scouts and analysts.

The title is the first for the Eagles girls program. Darlene Bunts sank her only field goal, a baseline layup with 28 seconds left in the third overtime to give CIA the lead for good. At the end of the first overtime, Nikolaevsk's Kayla Stafford was fouled shooting a jumper at the buzzer and could have given the Warriors the title, but she made one of two from the free throw line, sending the game to a second overtime period, tied at 39.

The Seawolf men's basketball team knew it would have a difficult time making the NCAA Division II tournament after losing their GNAC quarterfinal game on a buzzer beating shot. As it turns out, the Seawolves fears have been realized as UAA has been left out of the eight team west region tournament announced by the NCAA on Sunday night.

The UAA hockey team has suffered its most decisive sweep of the WCHA season in its final regular season series of the year. 11th-ranked Denver scored three times in the first period of Sunday's 6-1 win over the Seawolves to complete a series sweep. The Pioneers defeated the Seawolves on Friday, 7-1.

Aces Extend Winning Streak To Seven

The Aces have eclipsed the point totals of the 2010-11 and 2011-12 teams that each captured Brabham Cups for the ECHL's top overall regular season record. Alaska received goals from six different players in a 6-2 win over the San Francisco Bulls on Saturday. With the victory, Alaska pads its ECHL-leading record to 46-12-6.

Service Boys, Dimond Girls Claim CIC Hoops Titles

Adam Klie was nearly perfect on 10 of 11 shooting from the field while Marques Robinson added 18 points as the Service boys basketball team avenged a regular season loss to East at the buzzer by defeating the T-Birds, 70-45 in Saturday's title game of the Cook Inlet Conference. Both schools will head to the state tournament.

Kikkan Repeats As World Cup Champion

Seawolf Goalie Makes 45 Saves In Loss

The 11th-ranked Denver Pioneers threw 52 shots on net Friday night, and seven of them found the back of the net in a 7-1 victory over the UAA Seawolves. Rob Gunderson made 45 stops, but Zac Larraza beat the junior twice, and DU's Ty Loney collected three assists in the victory. Scott Allen scored UAA's lone goal, his 12th of the year.

UAA's Chelimo, Bartlett Grad Clarke Claim NCAA Titles

UAA senior distance runner Micah Chelimo captured his third career NCAA title on Friday, winning the 5,000 meters in a time of 14 minutes, 12.82 seconds at the Division II championships in Birmingham, Alabama. Chelimo previously won NCAA crowns in the outdoor 5,000 meters in 2012 and this past fall in cross country. Overall, the native of Kenya has nine All-American accolades.

Central Washington's Mark McLaughlin sank a game-winning three-pointer as time expired to deal the UAA men's basketball team a crushing 79-78 defeat in Thursday's quarterfinals of the GNAC tournament. UAA led by 18 points at halftime, and despite giving that lead away, they had just gone ahead, 78-76 on Jalen Little's basket with less than five seconds to go.

Fast Trail Produces New Tour of Anchorage Winners

Brent Knight claimed his first Tour of Anchorage 50K ski race title on Sunday, in a men's record time of 2 hours, 4 minutes, 41 seconds. Knight came in third last year in the endurance race that takes skiers through the Anchorage trail system from Service High School to Kincaid Park. The previous record was co-held by brothers Lars and Erik Flora. Lars posted a mark of 2:06:12 in 2000, and Erik matched it with a title in 2005.

Iditarod Start Order Announced

The 66 mushers competing in Iditarod XLI drew for start positions at Thursday night's start banquet. Six past champions are in the race, including defending champion Dallas Seavey. His father, 2004 champion Mitch Seavey is also entered in the race, as are four-time winners Martin Buser, Jeff King, and Lance Mackey, plus 2011 winner and record holder John Baker. The ceremonial start begins at 10am Saturday on 4th Avenue in downtown Anchorage.

Aces Pummel Condors With First Period Flurry

The loss drops UAA to 10-7 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and could be damaging to the Seawolves NCAA tournament hopes. UAA came into the week ranked 9th in the latest west region poll. Eight teams advance to the postseason.
