Boonsboro grad Lowery wins PSAC shot put

EDINBORO, Pa. — Kutztown University freshman John Lowery Jr., a Boonsboro graduate, won the shot put with a throw of 53 feet, 7 1/2 inches on Sunday at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championships.

Shepherd loses two

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — Shepherd University fell twice at the Pioneer Classic at Tusculum College on Sunday, suffering an 8-7 setback to Tusculum in 10 innings and an 8-2 loss to King College.

Carly Schmidt and sophomore Savannah Snyder each went 3-for-5 and drove in three runs to lead the Rams (1-5) against Tusculum. Tayler Schaefer, Shanan Plunkett (a North Hagerstown graduate) and Kass Taylor each added two hits.

Taylor went 2-for-3 and Alysha Voytell went 2-for-2 with an RBI to lead Shepherd against King.

Shepherd 7, Davis & Elkins 2

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Shepherd University used an 11-hit attack to score a 7-2 win over Davis & Elkins (0-3) for interim head coach Matt McCarty’s first career coaching victory.

Michael Lott went 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Rams (1-5). Chad Murphy, Ryan Messina and Brandon Coffey eachhad two hits and Coffey drove in two. Davis Hall (1-1) allowed four hits in seven scoreless innings, striking out eight.



MEN’S BASKETBALL

Rams’ Moore earns WVIAC weekly honors

Shepherd University senior forward Chad Moore and West Virginia Wesleyan’s Kelsey Williams were named co-West Virginia Conference players of the week.

Moore led the Rams to a 1-1 week. In a 10-point loss at West Liberty, Moore connected on 13 of 22 shots for a team-best 29 points and added five rebounds and four blocks. In a win over West Virginia Wesleyan, Moore scored 39 points on 13-of-21 shots and 11-of-12 free throws and added five rebounds and five assists.
