SAN YSIDRO — The Imperial High boys’ basketball team recorded two wins and a loss at the San Ysidro High tournament here this week.
On Monday, the Tigers beat Castle Park High, 67-38. For the Tigers, Marcelluz Smith had 20 points, four assists, six rebounds and four steals. Dejon Staton had 16 points, four rebounds and three assists.
Royce Freeman had 12 points, three assists, four rebounds and five steals.
That same day, the Tigers lost to San Ysidro, 92-75. Smith had 27 points and eight rebounds. Staton had 14 points, two assists and three rebounds. Dexter Bell had 15 points, 13 rebounds and four assists.
On Tuesday, Imperial beat Mar Vista High, 62-22. Bell had 15 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks. Staton had 10 points, three assists and three steals.
Imperial was set to play against Morse High on Wednesday in the same tournament.
Imperial loses in tourney
SPRING VALLEY — The Imperial High girls’ basketball team lost two games in the Monte Vista tournament here Wednesday.
Imperial lost to Monte Vista, 60-26, with Ashley Bermudez scoring seven points.
The Tigers then lost to Escondido, 38-37, in overtime.
For the Tigers, Jalen Olguin had 18 points and 10 rebounds and Dezra Van had seven points and 14 rebounds.
Eagles get loss, win in tourney
SAN DIEGO — The Southwest High girls’ basketball team recorded a loss and a win at the SoCal Holiday Classic here Wednesday.
The Eagles lost to Lawndale, 22-18. For the Eagles, Evalyn Cota had 10 points, eight rebounds, five steals and three blocks. Kacee Forrester had 15 rebounds.
Southwest then beat Valhalla, 58-26, with 14 points by Cota. Maci Lerno had 17 rebounds and Yvette Morales had 10 points and seven rebounds. Southwest (8-3) will play against El Capitan High at 2 p.m. today in Lakeside in the tournament.
Central splits at tournament
SPRING VALLEY — The Central Union High girls’ basketball team recorded a loss and a win in the Monte Vista High tournament here Wednesday.
The Spartans lost to Kearny Mesa, 66-25, then beat Crawford High, 46-25. Central will continue in the tournament today.
Bulldogs win in tournament
