Jeff King has won the Kuskokwim 300 sled dog race for the ninth time.

King and 12 dogs crossed the finish line in Bethel at 11 a.m. Sunday, followed one hour and five minutes later by Tony Browning.

KYUK says the 56-year-old King has more than twice as many Kuskokwim 300 wins than anybody else.

He last won the 300-mile race in 2006.

The winner's purse this year is $22,000.

The race kicked off from Bethel Friday.

King says the trail was snowy and windy, but his team was still powerful.

He broke his brake from riding it so hard and says he didn't have a brake for 150 miles.
