On Saturday night, The Dimond Lynx boys soccer team ended the two year reign of the Juneau Douglas Crimson Bears by beating the capital city club 1-0 in the  2012 Alaska State Championship.

A hard fought contest the Lynx earned their loan goal on a Travis Merritt penalty kick late in the first half.

After the game Merritt, a senior, said "I can't even describe the feeling that I'm feeling right now, amazing the best feeling I've ever had in my life."

Goalie Arturo Oberto, also a senior, played the roll of brick wall for Dimond turning away every shot he faced.  The keeper was quick to point out that he got amazing support from his teammates in order to keep the clean sheet. Oberto said "I'm so proud these guys are amazing and just to be playing with them it's a pleasure, a pleasure."

The victory marks the first title in soccer for the Dimond boys since 2002.
