#6 Sports Story Of 2012: UAA Women's Basketball Team Loses Two Head Coaches
When Tim Moser resigned as UAA women's basketball coach in May of this year, the departure marked the end of the most glorious era in program history. Moser took the Seawolves to three NCAA Division II Elite 8 appearances in a span of five seasons, and made the NCAA tournament in each of his six seasons. Overall, he compiled a record of 165-32, had the Seawolves ranked in the top 25 of Division II for 81 straight weeks, and produced the GNAC Newcomer of the Year in five of those six years. Following his resignation, Moser took an assistant coaching job at Colorado State. This alone would have been a notable story, but the drama surrounding the program was just unfolding. UAA hired former Junior College national champion coach and one-time Indiana assistant Nathan Altenhofen to replace Moser. However, after less than four months on the job, Altenhofen resigned under the pressure of allegations of professional misconduct and left the university in August before even coaching a practice. Finally, the Seawolves hired Northwest Nazarene alum and assistant coach Ryan McCarthy, who took over the team in mid-August and entered the season as coach. By then, several key players with eligibility remaining had left the Seawolf women's basketball program.
