The Alaska Aces now have 16 players under contract for the upcoming season.  Today the club announced the signing of rookie forward Jarred Smith out of Brown University and acquired the rights to defenseman Craig Syvret in a trade with the Trenton Titans.  Alaska received Syvret for future considerations.

Syvret is a third year defenseman who furnished four goals and six assists last season in 59 games.  He also spent three games at the AHL level.  Syvret was a teammate of Gerald Coleman in junior hockey.

Smith will make his pro debut with the Aces after appearing in 125 collegiate games at Brown.  He totalled 30 points in his career with 15 goals and 15 assists and also landed on the ECAC all-academic squad.

The Aces begin the regular season Friday, October 12th at the Colorado Eagles.
