The Noorvik boys and Point Hope girls claimed last minute victories in Wednesday's state 2A championship basketball games.
In the girls final, Amanda Sage nailed a three pointer to put her team up two with 56 seconds left to lift Point Hope to a 49-47 championship game win over Cook Inlet Academy. The Harpooners won their first state championship since 1998.
In the boys game, Noorvik and Scammon Bay were tied at 48 with 2.1 seconds to play when the Bears' Elmer Armstrong III stepped to the free throw line and calmly sank a pair of free throws to give Noorvik a 50-48 victory. The Bears have won four state crowns ( two each in 1A and 2A ) in the last eight seasons.
