The Aces closed 2012 as the hottest team in the ECHL, not to mention the best overall.
Nick Mazzolini scored his ECHL-leading 20th goal of the season, and Alaska outshot Colorado 13-3 in a dominating opening period in a 4-2 win over the Eagles on New Year's Eve at Sullivan Arena. The Aces improve to 26-8-0 overall with its season-high eighth consecutive win.
Garry Nunn and Alexandre Imbeault scored first period goals for Alaska, while Joey Crabb tallied a goal and an assist in a 24 second span in the second period. Crabb's helper on Mazzolini's goal extended the lead to 4-0 and ended the night for Colorado goalie Kyle Jones.
Imbeault has managed a point in six straight games. Gerald Coleman stopped 23 shots to pick up his 11th win in 13 starts.
