Eielson took its first state football championship in 20 years with a 27-7 win over Nikiski in Saturday's state small schools final. The Ravens capped off a 10 and 0 season as Anthony Griffith scored all four touchdowns.
The medium schools division also decided its champion on Saturday at Chugiak's Tom Huffer, Senior Stadium. Soldotna led Northern Lights Conference rival Homer 27-0 at halftime and went on to earn its fifth state title in school history, 62-20.
In the large schools division, Service outlasted West, 49-34 in a semifinal shootout to advance to play South in next week's title game. The Cougars scored five of their touchdowns in the second and third quarters to pull away, while Amu Aukusitino threw for three scores.
