Alaskan teams went 1 and 2 versus out of state competition Friday in the 17th Annual BP Invitational for American Legion Baseball teams.
Reigning high school state champion South defeated Las Vegas Post 40, 3-0 behind a shutout by Max Karnos, who also singled in a pair of runs. South is 2 and 0 in the tournament.
Matching the unbeaten record of the Wolverines are the Spruce Grove White Sox of Edmonton, Alberta. The White Sox won twice on Friday, downing Las Vegas, 11-7 and West, 11-1.
Another impressive team thus far in the round-robin pool play tournament are the Napoleon ( Ohio ) River Bandits. Napoleon took down Dimond in Friday's late game, 5-1. Service scored a 1-0 victory over Chugiak in a matchup of Alaskan posts.
Five tournament games are scheduled for Saturday. After the completion of those games, the top two records in each pool will advance to semifinal and championship game action on Sunday.
