Mike Dunlap, originally from Fairbanks, and widely recognized as an elite basketball mind, will be hired as head coach of the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats as early as Wednesday, according to league sources.

Dunlap grew up in Alaska and attended Loyola Marymount University, where he later became an assistant coach.  His resume includes two NCAA Division II titles with Metro State in 2000 and 2002 and a couple of years on the Denver Nuggets staff.  Dunlap most recently worked under Steve Lavin at St. John's.

Dunlap inherits a Bobcats team that finished 7 and 59 in the 2011-12 season, the worst winning percentage in NBA history.  Charlotte owns the number two pick in next week's draft.
