After clinching the Brabham Cup and the First Round Bye, the Alaska Aces have yet another reason to celebrate. Head coach Rob Murray has been awarded ECHL Coach of the Year on Tuesday. The annual award goes to the coach who contributed the most to his team's success, and it's voted on by other coaches in the league.
Murray is only in his first season with the team, but had no problem leading the aces to a league-best 43-18-11 record, and the club's sixth division championship in nine ECHL seasons. Murray becomes the third Aces coach in franchise history to receive the award.
The Aces begin their championship defense on Friday, April 13th when they host either Colorado or Stockton in Game One of the Western Conference Semifinals.
