2010 state 1A-2A volleyball champion New Stuyahok received a scare from Lumen Christi in the quarterfinal round of the ASAA tournament on Thursday. The Eagles blew a two games to none lead before prevailing, 25-23, 25-15, 24-26, 18-25, 15-11. New Stuyahok will face Klawock in the semifinals, which defeated Tok in the quarterfinals, 25-14, 25-15, 25-14.
On the other side of the bracket, Cook Inlet Academy got a tough match from Kalskag but ended up winning, 20-25, 25-21, 25-19, 27-25. CIA will take on Kenny Lake in the semifinals. The Hawks denied Skagway in the quarterfinals, 25-23, 25-14, 25-19.
In the Mixed Six division where three girls and three boys compete together at once, Unalakleet downed Marshall in round one, 25-9, 25-11, 25-19 to set up a semifinal date with Glacier View. The Wolverines also swept their opening round match, defeating Noorvik, 25-16, 25-14, 25-15.
On the opposite side of the draw, Aniak won a dramatic five game match against Scammon Bay to advance, 25-21, 22-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-8. The Halfbreeds' semifinal opponent will be Napaaqtugmiut. The Lynx took down Golovin in a five-game thriller, 21-25, 25-14, 22-25, 25-22, 16-14.
