On the day that marked the opening of training camp, the Alaska Aces announced the signing of locked out NHL players Scott Gomez, Nate Thompson, and Joey Crabb to their camp roster.  All three players are from Anchorage.

Thompson and Crabb both expressed delight and excitement today about the chance to compete for their hometown team.  Gomez, who played for the Aces during the NHL's previous lockout in 2004-05, has stated that he would not actually suit up for Alaska this time around.

The trio of NHL players all enter the 2012-13 season carrying veteran status, which brings the Aces total of veterans to six, two above the ECHL limit.  However, the club can legally get around that by making players inactive for a game or a series.

The Aces play their two exhibition games Monday and Tuesday, October 8th and 9th at home against the Las Vegas Wranglers.
