Scott Gomez wasn't content to merely play his first hockey game in several months or suit up in his first Aces contest since the 2004-05 lockout. The Anchorage native had an assist and scored the game winning goal in his season debut as the Aces defeated the Colorado Eagles, 4-3 on Wednesday night at Sullivan Arena. Alaska never led until Gomez scored at 6:29 of the third period to snap a 3-3 tie.
Joey Crabb added a shorthanded goal, Garry Nunn scored on the power play, and rookie Jarred Smith tallied his first professional goal for Alaska, which has now won four in a row and five straight at home to reach 9-4-0 on the season.
After allowing three goals in the opening 20 minutes and 12 seconds, Mark Guggenberger held Colorado scoreless the rest of the way and stopped 28 shots. Alaska and Colorado meet again Friday and Saturday.
