After ending last season with a state championship, the Service football team is also number one in the Alaska Sports Broadcasting Network preseason poll released on Monday. Service returns seven starters on offense and five on defense from a team that went 10-0-1 last season. Service and second ranked West begin the season by traveling to Hawaii. The Cougars will take on Leilehua this Friday, while the Eagles face Punahou.
Topping the medium-small schools poll is Soldotna. The Stars won state titles in 2006, '07, '08, and 2010 before being knocked off in the semifinals last year. So-Hi opens up by hosting Palmer, the third ranked team in large schools.
