The South high school hockey team rallied from a 2-0 deficit after one period to knock off previously unbeaten and defending state 4A champion Dimond, 4-3 on Wednesday night in at a packed Ben Boeke Arena. Trailing 3-2 into the third period, Steven Orizotti scored the tying goal with 2:25 left in regulation and then Tyler Onstott buried the game-winner on the next shift with 1:48 left.
The victory snaps Dimond's 39-game winning streak. The Lynx, who ran the table en route to last season's championship, had won every game this year as well. Dimond's last loss came in the semifinals of the 2011 state semifinals to Service. Tyler Andrews had a goal and two assists for the Lynx.
The Wolverines also stay undefeated in the Cook Inlet Conference at 7-0, while Dimond drops to 6-1.
