South High School battled East at the Anchorage Football Stadium Saturday. Both teams are 1 and 2 in the Cook Inlet Conference, and the winner Saturday would move into a four-way tie for 3rd in the conference.

The Wolverines’ opening drive was a little sloppy, with Filipo Mulifai recovering a fumble but South scoring nothing. South’s next possession brought it inside the 10-yard line, but East’s Jerrad Laws picked off Zach Lujan to hand South a second scoreless drive.

It was only fitting that defenders provided the only points of the half, with Michael Neilsen and Gabe Imlach in on the safety.

The Wolverines broke the game open late to win, 25-6. They're .500 in league play.
