A university at the Division II level might fear of one day losing a talented coach. Tim Moser might be bolting UAA for a school in the Seawolves' own state. Moser, who has guided the UAA women's basketball program to five consecutive NCAA tournaments, is a finalist for the men's head coaching position at UAF.
The other two candidates up for the job vacated by Clem Johnson are former Western Oregon coach Craig Stanger and New Mexico State assistant coach Mick Durham. Johnson left UAF after compiling a record of 28 wins and 74 losses in four seasons.
Moser has built the Seawolf program into one of the more consistent teams in all of Division II, posting a mark of 135 and 27 in five seasons. His resume includes back-to-back trips to the Division II final four, and three straight Great Alaska Shootout titles.
Moser can expect to find out relatively soon whether he will be hired by the Nanooks, as UAF will finish interviewing the three finalists this week. Moser declined to comment when reached by phone on Friday.
