Congress doesn't rank well against replacement refs

Still time for the Jacksonville Jags to offer their head coaching job to Tim Tebow. I know what you're thinking: It would be a step down for Tebow but he might do it for his hometown followers.

Come on, Orlando Magic. How many times do I have to say it? Frisbee-catching dogs.

Be honest: If you were having a little knee problem and this guy comes into the treatment room and says: "Hi, I'm Dr. James Andrews," wouldn't you jump out of the window?

Parental advice no kid has ever believed: "Children look better in uniforms."

"Tip of cesta" to Santi Echaniz

Friday and Saturday the Orlando Jai-Alai winter season will end with the three performances of the 24th Citrus Invitational Tournament that includes some of the best players in the world. It also will be the end of the jai-alai career of the fronton players' manager Santi Echaniz, 70, who has announced his retirement.

Echaniz came to Orlando as a player in 1962 and established himself as one of the best defensive backcourters in the game. In 1978 he agreed to stop playing and become the manager. In that role he has brought a surprising number of great players to Orlando over the years.

Most of you do not know his sport and do not know him, so trust me when I tell you that as player and manager, he has provided great entertainment for our community for more than 50 years.

Jai-alai players salute each other with a wave of the tip of their cestas (the catch-and-throw baskets strapped to their rights hands), so, Santi Echaniz, we salute you.

(The Cheap Seats return next Sunday but Jerry's melodious voice may be heard weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon on The Beat of Sports, hosted by Marc Daniels on 740theGame radio. Jerry strives to answer all emails sent to osogreene@aol.com as long as they don't involved foreign brides. And did we really say, "Melodious?" Have a great playoff Sunday.)
