UPDATE: Virginia Tech QB Logan Thomas returning for senior season

Logan Thomas will return to Virginia Tech for his senior season.

Thomas made the announcement live on ESPNU at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday. Thomas, a Brookville High School graduate, had been contemplating entering the NFL Draft. On Tuesday he announced that he would return to the Hokies football team.

Thomas says that he did not project as a first-round pick. He reportedly talked with Scot Loeffler, the former Auburn offensive coordinator who interviewed for the same spot in Blacksburg on Monday, prior to making his decision official. Thomas also consulted with Coach Frank Beamer, along with assistants Shane Beamer and Bryan Stinespring.    

"I’m deciding to come back to Tech to better myself and this team for the future," Thomas wrote in a news release. "I’m looking forward to what this upcoming season holds. The NFL has always been a goal of mine, but the NFL will always be there while college is only a five-year experience that you can’t get back.”

The Lynchburg native will enter his senior season third all-time in passing yards and total offense.

Thomas and the Hokies struggled in 2012. Virginia Tech (7-6) narrowly avoided its first losing season since 1992 with a bowl game win over Rutgers. In 2012 Thomas completed only 51 percent of his passes, and threw 18 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. He led the team in rushing with 524 yards on his way to breaking his own school record for total offense with 3,500 yards this season.

Thomas, who is listed at 6-foot-6 and 260 pounds, was a second-team All-ACC pick as a sophomore in 2011. He led the Hokies to an 11-3 record and a Sugar Bowl appearance against Michigan. He finished the season by completing 234-of-391

As a freshman in 2010 he played in seven games, including time at wide receiver. He served as Tyrod Taylor's backup, and completed 12-of-26 passes for 107 yards.

Coming out of Brookville High School, Thomas was the top tight end prospect in the country. He was redshirted in 2009 while the coaching staff moved him to quarterback. Thomas graduated in December with a degree in human development. Click here for more information about Thomas.
