January 24 is the most depressing day of the year, J.D. Gibbs was told. That gloomy message was clearly not shared with the rest of the employees at Joe Gibbs Racing.
From a “Gangham Style” video that included just about everyone at the shop, to each of the drivers taking playful jabs at one another, it was all fun Thursday during the last stop of the NASCAR Media Tour.
“Every now and then you wonder how we screw something up at the racetrack,” Joe Gibbs said after watching the “Gangham Style” video.
Thursday was Matt Kenseth’s introduction to JGR, as he moves over from Roush Fenway.
News also broke that Kyle Busch will run the No. 54 Monster car for about 25 races in the Nationwide Series.
Busch just signed an extension with JGR. He owns his own Nationwide team.
“That’s the good news. The bad news is that we work for him and we are broke,” Gibbs joked.
STENHOUSE AND DANICA?
The rumor mill was churning Thursday about a potential new romance between two rookies, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and newly divorced Danica Patrick.
Sporting News asked Stenhouse on Thursday about the rumors, and he reportedly sidestepped the question.

Virginia native Denny Hamlin had his first child. Taylor Hamlin was born January 20.
Another Virginia native, Elliot Sadler, was not in attendance Thursday. He was out testing.
Talking has never been a problem for Brad Keselowski.
If he’s to defend his NASCAR Sprint Cup championship, it will be in a new car and with a new manufacturer. Both changes are out of his control after Dodge dropped out of racing, and NASCAR’s decision to move to the Gen 6 cars starting in 2013.
Keselowski, who moves from a Dodge to a Ford, says communication has been key for both changes.
As far as Ford goes, he says that he has been impressed with the “level of engagement” from the manufacturer.
It’s good to be king.
Brad Keselowski was the toast of the town in Mooresville, N.C., on Wednesday night. The defending Cup champion was given a key to the town by the mayor, as well as another award from a magazine.
UP A NOTCH
The expectations for Joey Logano have been sky-high since he burst onto the NASCAR scene as a teenager.
This year the bar is raised a bit more. Logano is in his first year driving for Penske Racing after leaving Joe Gibbs Racing. One of his sponsors raised it a bit more during a NASCAR Media Tour event Wednesday night.
A Shell PR person said she expects a Cup championship for the 22-year-old. No pressure.
There was a lot of buzz Wednesday about Kasey Kahne's new haircut. And not the good kind of attention.
Brad Keselowski said Kahne's haircut looked like it was from the "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air."

Everything about Travis Pastrana is a touch unorthodox. From his racing background to the paint scheme on his Nationwide car and his choice of clothing.
While all of his other Roush Fenway teammates wore sports jackets during the Roush Fenway event Thursday morning, Pastrana opted for a plaid jacket and baseball cap.
Pastrana is driving full-time on the Nationwide circuit in 2013. The paint bright pink and blue paint scheme is very noticeable.
