ANCHORAGE -

The rematch of last year's state semifinal turned decisive early on Friday night at Anchorage Football Stadium.  Defending large schools state champion West opened the season with a 28-6 win over Palmer.  Quarterback Sam Wedin connected with Lazono Martin for a pair of touchdowns in the first quarter as the Eagles led 21-0 after one.

Colony, last season's Railbelt Conference champion, opened with a 23-13 win over East.  With the score 7-7 in the third quarter, Steven Bilafer found Tucker Looney for the go-ahead 39 yard touchdown pass on 4th and 15.

In Friday's only other game, North Pole downed West Valley in a back and forth affair, 41-35.  Shane Hursh scored the go-ahead touchdown with 2:03 left and the Patriots sealed the game with a late goal line stand.
