Those attending Warren Central High School on Friday night in hopes of seeing two Indiana University class of 2013 recruits would have been disappointed. Due to a concussion, Cathedral Senior Collin Hartman was forced to sit out the game.
Nonetheless, those in attendance did see a pretty great basketball game Friday night as the consolation prize, with the number-eight ranked Warriors knocking off top-ranked Cathedral 61-60 on their home court.
Future Hoosier and Warriors Senior Devin Davis Jr. did not disappoint Friday night, scoring 30 points and 15 rebounds, while Jordan Garnett added 19 points en route to the victory.
"It's our first game and we're just trying to find our chemistry," said Warren Central Head Coach Greg Graham. "We are just trying to find our rotations, so there are a lot of things we need to work on. But it was a good, hard fought basketball game, and I'm glad we won."
Warren and Cathedral battled back and forth throughout the entire game until the Warriors broke through eventually take a 61-52 lead late with 1:48 left once Davis rebounded one of his own free throws. Forced turnovers and missed free throws opened the door up for the Irish though, and Mo Evans hit a three for 17 points to cut the lead down to 61-60 with 41 seconds left.
The Irish forced a turnover once again with 30 seconds left, and after a timeout at the 15 second mark, a Mo Evans shot was no good but knocked out of bounds with 1.7 seconds left. After a deflection out of bounds Cathedral got one more chance with .3 seconds left, but couldn't get a shot off in time.
