Northern Plains Livestock Day will begin at 7 a.m. Saturday, June 2, in the Brown County Expo building at the Brown County Fairgrounds.
The event is hosted by the Agriculture Committee of the Aberdeen Area Chamber of Commerce. Co-chairmen are Eric Payne and Adam Franken, ag teacher and adviser of the Groton Future Farmers of America.
Included are a Jackpot Market Lamb, a Junior No Fit Show, and a Progress Steer and Heifer show. New this year will be a Market Goat Show and Novice Showmanship.
The Market Goat Show will be start off the day's activities at 10 a.m. This show is for meat goats only and there will be no breed designations. Does and wethers will be shown together and broken down by weight classes. First place goat in each weight class will receive $20 and second place will receive $15. Grand Champion goat will receive $200 cash award and a jacket. Reserve Champion goat will receive $100 cash award and a jacket.
In the Jackpot Market Lamb show, the Division Champions will be picked from the top two (2) wethers and top two (2) ewes. Top wether and ewe will receive $20 cash award. Second place wether and ewe will receive $15 cash award. Grand Champion Lamb receives $200 cash award and a jacket. Reserve Champion receives $100 cash award and a jacket.
The Junior No Fit show was started to give young people a chance to begin showing livestock without having to compete against experienced competitors from the show circuit.
Junior No-Fit Show entries close at 11 a.m. Show time will immediately follow the Jackpot Market Lamb Show. Grand Champion Steer receives $75 cash award. Reserve Champion $50. Grand Champion Heifer receives $75 cash award. Reserve Champion $50.
Entries for the Progress Steer and Heifer show close at 11 a.m. Showtime will be immediately following Jr. No Fit Division, approximately 2 p.m. Fitting is optional. All entries are required to lead and tie. Grand Champion steer receives $300 cash award and jacket. Reserve Champion receives $100 and jacket. Grand Champion heifer receives $300 cash award and jacket. Reserve Champion receives $100 and jacket.
Novice Showmanship Award will be judged during the beef show for those with 3 years or less of show experience to participate.
