MANSFIELD - The 109-year-old bank in Mansfield has closed its doors, leaving the town without a full-time business on Main Street.

"It will have quite an impact, especially on the older people in town," said Debbie Eisenbeisz, postmaster at the Mansfield Post Office. "In a small community, whenever something like this happens, it devastates the community."

The Mansfield State Bank's majority stockholders, the Forsyth family, had been operating the bank since 1958. The late Robert Forsyth, who started as assistant cashier in 1946, served as president until about 2000. His son, John Forsyth, had worked there since 1970, serving as president for the past 12 years.

The bank merged with American Bank and
