Lincoln County graduate Ryan Young scored 13 points Monday to help Union College beat Reinhart 68-67 to win the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament title and advance to the NAIA Division II national tournament for the first time since 1968.
Young had 11 first-half points on 5 of 6 shooting as the fourth-seeded Bulldogs (16-15) led 37-25 at the half and claimed their first conference title since the 1971-72 season. The national tournament begins next week in Branson, Mo.
Young had another 13-point game Saturday as Union upset top-seeded Milligan College 74-71. Young was 5 of 10 shooting, hitting both of his 3-point attempts, and added four rebounds and two assists.
Fellow Lincoln graduate Noah Keeton saw his top-ranked Northwood University team’s season come to an end Saturday with a 70-69 double-overtime loss to Riddle in The Sun Conference final, but still will advance to the NAIA Division II tournament with an at-large bid. Keeton finished with five points and three rebounds in the contest.
