London Citadel Band of the Salvation Army (June 11, 2011) |
The mission of the London Citadel Band is multi-faceted: to share the gospel of Jesus Christ through music, word and scripture with its congregation, its community and all who listen; to witness to the joy of the Christian life through example in its everyday living and collective band activities; to serve God through an integral role at its corps, and by striving to be a viable force in the community; and to encourage music making as an enjoyable, fulfilling and effective ministry.
The London Citadel Band got its start in 1883. By the early 1900s, the ensemble was in demand at other Army corps including Windsor and Detroit.
In 1932, the Golden Anniversary celebrations were a great success, conducted by Colonel Dalziel, the Chief Secretary. The bandmaster, Hugh McGregor, wrote a march for this occasion titled "London Jubilee," which was performed at the Saturday night festival.
The band traveled to the United Kingdom in 1997, and has made trips to other areas such as the West Coast of Canada and the U.S.A.; Southern U.S.A. Territory; Old Orchard, Maine; Holland, Mich.; Columbus, Ohio; Chicago; Syracuse, N.Y.; and The Great American Brass Band Festival.
