Alex Beckerson hit a layup with 2 seconds to play in overtime Tuesday as the Burgin boys pulled off a 43-41 win over visiting Sayre.
Beckerson scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Bulldogs (7-10), and Dylan Coulter added eight points.
Burgin trailed 38-33 with 1:47 to play when Beckerson got a block, then score on a putback, was fouled and hit the free throw to make it 38-36 with 49 seconds left. After a Beckerson steal, Coulter was fouled and hit both free throws to tied the game with 14 seconds remaining, but Sayre could not get off a clean shot.
In overtime, Sayre led 41-38 when Coulter hit a
3-pointer to tie the game with 2:25 to go. A Sayre miss, gave Burgin the ball back, setting up Beckerson’s winning shot.
The Bulldogs were 14 of 43 from the floor and 9 of 17 at the line. Sayre, which held an 18-16 edge on the glass, was 16 of 47 from the field and
9 of 12 at the line.
Lincoln County 80, McCreary Central 55 — At Stanford, Jacob Conway led four players in double figures with 21 points and four steals and Luke Hill had 16 points and 10 rebounds as the Patriots (10-12) routed visiting McCreary Central (8-13).
B.J. Hoover and Brandon Pittman each scored 11 points and point guard Timmy Taylor handed out 14 assists and had four steals for Lincoln, which finished 29 of 65 from the floor and 13 of 19 at the free throw line. The Patriots held a 39-25 advantage on the boards.
McCreary was 21 of 45 shooting and hit 10 of 15 at the line.
Lynn Camp 74, Kentucky School f/t Deaf 40 — At Lynn Camp, the Colonels (5-13) fell behind by 18 points after a quarter and could not recover in a loss at Lynn camp (11-11).
Dillon Maynard and Adam Turner each had 10 points for KSD, which was 18 of 61 from the floor and just 1 of 1 at the foul line. Turner added seven rebounds and three assists.
The Colonels trailed 44-18 at the half and 58-28 after three quarters.
Girls
Rockcastle County 66, Mercer County 43 — At Mount Vernon, the Titans (14-6) shot just 25 percent from the floor and made just 13 of 27 at the line in a blowout loss to the Rockets¿(13-8).
“We really hadn’t had a clunker all year, and we definitely had a clunker tonight, and Rockcastle put it on us”¿Mercer coach Chris Souder said. “We got outworked, got out-toughed and they just took it to us. We’ve got to go back to work today at practice.”
Cassidy Martin scored 10 points, 16 below her average, Heidi Huffman had nine points and Carli Souder added seven for Mercer, which trailed 35-30 at the half, but was down 54-35 after three quarters. The Titans finished 13 of 53 from the floor and made just 4 of 25 3-pointers.
