1. Art review: Unearthing a rare treasure at Huntington Library

The San Gabriel Mountains rise to imposing heights behind a tiny rural outpost. An alpine lake in the Sierra lies still in a frame of snowdrifts, rocky peaks and moss-covered stones. A narrow path disappears into a field of yellow flowers stretching toward blue sky.

  11. 'Teen Wolf' director's brutally honest commentary

Say the last time you walked out during a movie was 20 years ago, and say that movie you could no longer put up with was an interminable comedy named "The Super." Joe Pesci plays a slumlord, ordered by a court to live in one of his own questionable buildings and learn valuable life lessons; though, of course, it's hard to say whether Pesci learned many of those life lessons because you left after 45 tedious minutes. Say there was only one other time you walked out of a movie, and that was two years before "The Super." The movie was named "K-9" — something about Jim Belushi and a police dog.

  17. These artists win awards for painting the town

Let painters loose in historic Ellicott City, and they'll quickly create enough pretty pictures to fill an art gallery. The pictorial proof is hanging on the walls of the Howard County Arts Council, which is located just a short drive away from the depicted scenes.
