    The Stephen Haynes/Joe Morris-curated <em>Improvisations </em>series at Real Art Ways has been brewing up seat-of-the-pants music-making for quite some time now. Every month, trumpeter Haynes and Morris, a guitarist who also wrote a fascinating treatise on musical improv, gather freewheeling guests artists of all stripes into their caldron of invention. It's one of Hartford's cultural gems, a serious listening lab where the audience shares states of deep concentration with the performers.     In <em>Making Tracks</em>, Laurie Frick used contemporary apps like Fitbit, OpenPaths and an iPhone camera to compile the results from 90 days of surveillance, assembling her findings into a huge floor-to-ceiling grid. It's the type of art that encourages self-discovery by comparing the world we <em>think</em> we live in with what we actually spend our time doing (which usually involves technology of some sort). The opening reception will be held Jan. 17, 2013.
